Sugar Cookies for Santa

2 sticks unsalted butter

2 cups sugar

2 eggs

½ teaspoon vanilla extract

½ cup milk

4 ½ cups self-rising flour

Cream butter and sugar together using an electric mixer until fluffy. Add the eggs, flavoring and milk and mix well. Gradually add the flour until all is blended. Cover and chill dough for at least 1 hour. Divide the dough and work with ½ at a time. Roll the dough out on a floured surface and cut out cookies using Christmas cookie cutters. Carefully lift cookies onto a greased baking sheet and bake at 375 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes.

Icing:

4 cups powdered sugar

1 cup shortening

1 ½ tablespoons milk

Food coloring
